ROCKHAMPTON Regional Council is caught in a highwire act over its plan to seduce mine workers to settle in the beef capital.
Mayor Margaret Strelow said $200,000 would be set aside to "encourage" resource industry workers looking for mine work including at Adani's controversial Camichael Mine in the Galilee Basin.
Details of the incentive packages are still be finalised, Cr Strelow said.
"The end result will be that employees who have a job in the resources sector will have good reason to settle in Rockhampton," Cr Strelow said.
It is understood the allocated money will not impact on the RCC budget but will come from the its economic development unit.
State government MPs Barry O'Rourke (Rockhampton) and Brittany Lauga (Keppel) see value in incentivising workers but think the strategy has missed the target.
They argue the RCC incentive package should be aimed at local job seekers and Mr O'Rourke has repeated his call for an Adani jobs register.
"I support the council's efforts to attract Adani workers to Rocky, but we need to make sure ratepayers aren't paying people to take a job that could be filled by a local," Mr O'Rourke said.
"A fund like this should only be used as a last resort and I'd rather we focus on making sure our local job seekers and young people have the skills needed to fill these Adani jobs.
"That's why we need an Adani jobs register - so we know which jobs have been created and which ones are in the pipeline."
Adani has often declared it would draw workers from Rockhampton and Townsville.
