Last Saturday round 16 of the Wagners Risdon Cup featured Sponsors Days at Goondiwindi, Condamine and St George. St George and District Frillnecks RUFC unveiled their 37-seater coach, kindly donated by Bus Queensland. St George hosted Warwick in a spirited B grade clash with Warwick, prevailing 12-5. The Wagners Risdon Cup Ladder is further developing towards the Super Saturday finals' hosting rights. Ladder leaders and reigning premier Goondiwindi Emus had a 31-5 victory over USQ Saints, while the Toowoomba Rangers travelled to Fish Tank however lost 36-17 to the Condamine Cods. This puts the Cods now one point clear of the Rangers in third place on the Risdon ladder. Dalby Wheatmen enjoyed a convincing 53-0 win over Bears with a vital four competition points to place them in fifth position, one point ahead of USQ Saints. UQ Gatton had a bye weekend.
Wagners Match of the Round this Saturday sees the fifth placed Dalby Wheatmen host the fourth placed Toowoomba Rangers, with only four competition points currently separating these two teams. Remember four competition points for a win, and a bonus point if three tries clear. Downs Rugby will host the Super Saturdays on Saturday August 3 and Saturday August 10. It's looking like week one at Roma and week two at Goondiwindi. Elimination finals are on Saturday August 17. The Wagners Risdon Cup grand finals and Emilee Cherry Open Womens 7s final will be played on Saturday August 24 at Toowoomba Sports Ground, which will also include the converted Downs Rugby Awards with a special ceremony in the function room, also on-field before the A grade kick-off.
