The future of the Hereford breed is in good hands, if the latest show put on by the Herefords QLD Youth Association is anything to go by.
From July 5 to 7, 55 competitors aged from seven to 25 gathered at the Pittsworth Showgrounds for the annual show, along with 65 head of cattle.
This year the show started early on the Friday with some competitors heading to Oakey Beef Exports, learning about other parts of the beef supply chain.
Later in the afternoon all competitors took part in a farmer's challenge while Saturday saw all competitors partaking in hands-on sessions about branding and tagging, junior judging, making halters, parading, photography, public speaking and arts and craft.
Competitors also participated in informative talks including sessions run by Pat O'Neil from Zoetis and Geoff from Queensland Ambulance Service.
The competitors showed off what they had learnt over the weekend through a junior judging competition, cattle classes and parading competitions.
There was a wide range of awards received with Mitchell Portbury taking out the senior grand champion public speaker and Tom York taking out the junior grand champion public speaker.
Senior grand champion junior judge was awarded to Chloe Jamieson and junior grand champion junior judge to Kayla Duncan.
Grand champion parader went to Chloe Jamison and Aleacea Nixon received grand champion herdsman.
The Queensland Ambassador Award was awarded to Alex Rankin and the Lyn Zillman award for Queensland Hereford Youth Member of the Year went to Lyall Nixon.
Senior most potential Hereford breeder was awarded to Bailey Duncan and junior most potential Hereford breeder to Riley Bacon.
Champion futurity female and supreme champion animal was presented to Talbalba Moonbeam M141, led by Bridie Shooter.
Champion steer was awarded to Vegas, led by Charleigh Tucker.
Champion commercial heifer went to Blossom, led by Bridie Gurner.
Champion bull was awarded to Ownaview Storm, led by Lachlan Bacon.
Champion Junior Heifer was presented to Wallan Creek Lioness, led by Felicity Roberts.
Champion senior heifer and grand champion heifer was awarded to Callaway LK98 Ellen P009, led by Connor Duthie.
Champion bred and owned went to Jacaranda Corisande, exhibited by Alex Rankin.
