A son of Woonallee Dimension, described as one of the most complete sires ever offered for sale by Lucrana Simmentals, fetched a top price of $16,000 at their annual on-property sale last Friday.
Buyers travelled from across Queensland and the NSW North Coast to attend the on-property sale near Texas, while an active online contingent placed bids through Elite Livestock Auctions.
Bidders registered from as far afield as Mt Gambier in South Australia and Eurack in Victoria.
Bulls averaged $6137 with 58 bulls out of 59 sold under the hammer. The remaining bull sold in negotiation immediately after the sale to make a 100 per cent clearance.
Top price bull was Lucrana Nadal, bought by Loid and Zabby Appleton, Yarmina Station, Charters Towers, Qld.
The two-year-old son of Woonallee Dimension from Lucrana K15 entered the ring weighing 980kg.
He presented with an eye muscle area of 141 square centimetres, 9mm rib fat, 12mm rump fat, scrotal circumference of 39cm, semen morphology of 85pc and 5.3pc intramuscular fat.
Bidding quickly drove the price to $16,000, exceeding the $13,000 top from last year's on-property sale.
Lucrana Nadal will go into the Appletons' stud herd.
Lucrana stud principal Andrew Moore said Nadal was his pick of the draft and he wasn't surprised to see him draw the top money.
"He's just a really well-balanced carcase bull, great temperament, great fat scans and EMA and weight for age," he said.
The second-top price of $11,000 was fetched by Lucrana N89, sold to Alan Stevenson, Springsure, Qld.
A son of Lucrana Hunter from Lucrana Elanora, the rising two-year-old weighed 876kg, with an EMA of 130sq cm, 20mm rump fat, 14mm rib fat, scrotal circumference of 41cm, intramuscular fat of 5.8pc and semen morphology of 70pc.
Lucrana Navigator kicked off the sale, selling for $6000 to Clerkness Pastoral Company, Bundarra, with 50pc of the profits going to the Black Dog Institute.
He was one of three bulls bought by Clerkness Pastoral Company, averaging $7333.
Mr Moore said he was extremely happy with the clearance rate in particular, considering the tough seasonal conditions.
"I thought that would be the most difficult thing this year, to get 100pc clearance," he said.
"I thought the better bulls would sell well but getting the clearance this year with so many cows gone out of the system, that would be hard.
"That's probably the most pleasing aspect of the sale. We were quietly confident before the sale, we'd had a lot of interest and a lot of buyer registrations on the day.
"Central Queensland was strong, as was the Northern Rivers where the season is a bit better, but there were still quite a few that went to the Western Downs as well."
Black Simmentals reached a top of $9000 twice, first for Lucrana N317, bought by Clerkness Pastoral Company, then for Lucrana N382, bought by Ian and Sharon Beard, Chinchilla, Qld.
Bill and Sue Pickersgill, Theodore, Qld, bought two bulls to average $6500 while Bruce Tighe, Eidsvold, Qld, also bought two bulls to average $6500.
The selling agents were Landmark and C.L. Squires and Co, with Robbie Bloch as auctioneer for the day's proceedings.
