In a perfect world there would be no need for a supplementary feed, but when grass runs low or conditions are not ideal, they become a necessity.
Finding the right products and managing them is often a challenge, but Nebo Rural Services' dry lick offers an ideal solution for your particular property, livestock and circumstances.
Several things set their dry lick apart from other supplementary feeds, according to Nebo Rural Services' in-house nutritionist and animal specialist Rob Sands.
These include that the product is backed by a team who has extensive knowledge of the industry and local conditions.
"Our dry lick is made locally here in Central Queensland, and we have a lot of experience working with customers to adjust the lick intakes, and even their whole supplement program, to get the most benefit for their stock while working in with their budget," he said.
Rob said dry lick could be manufactured as a standard lick, or customised.
"Essentially it's a mix of nutrients that are what's not in the grass, including urea, a phosphorous source, protein, salt, sulphur and trace minerals," Rob said.
"We can tailor it according to particular cattle, country and pasture conditions to supply stock with the nutrients they need and the recipe can also be adjusted throughout the season to maximise the results.
"When the grass goes off, cattle will benefit from dry lick - most is fed through the dry season - it helps them hold condition and get good enough to get pregnant again."
Founded in 2011, Nebo Rural Services started as a one-man operation and now employs six full-time staff members. Since then, it has diversified and partnered with key suppliers to help provide the best possible products and service.
Staff share the attitude that service is everything, ensuring they find a way to assist customers with their needs and earning them the nickname of 'the go to guys' - one they are proud of.
Whether you are farming, mining or a home handyman, Nebo Rural Services can assist in their next job. Before starting a new project, be sure to call Nebo Rural Services so they can show the difference their experience and product knowledge makes, and how it can save the customer money.
Rob grew up on a beef and grain property at Wandoan before studying Agricultural Science at the University of Queensland. He spent more than 10 years with a major pastoral house before working as a nutritionist with Cattle King Ag Services and Riverina Stockfeeds. He has extensive experience in designing and managing supplementation programs in central Queensland.
In 2013, Nebo Rural Services introduced its transport company, Nebo Rural Transport, a move designed to help keep bulk stock products at competitive prices and supply them reliably and on-time. Their two late-model Western Star trucks feature curtain-sided, B-double and road train combinations in addition to flat tops and step decks.
This venture has helped grow Nebo Rural Services considerably. Its main transport depots are at Rocklea and Nebo and it now services areas including Brisbane, Toowoomba, Middlemount, Nebo, Mackay, Mt Ossa, Bloomsbury, Proserpine and Moranbah.
