Light restocker steers reach 308c on AuctionsPlus


Large numbers of PTIC cows and weaned steers from southern Queensland were offered on AuctionsPlus last week.


Cattle numbers from Queensland on AuctionsPlus last week totalled 1555 making up 20 per cent of the total offering national. Numbers held firm on the previous week, with large numbers of pregnancy tested in calf cows and weaned steers from southern Queensland.

Light restocker steers under 280kg continued to draw buyer interest selling from 258c to 308c to average 283c, up 10c. The top priced line was a mob of 264kg 9 to 12-month-old Angus steers from Goondiwindi. Santa Gertrudis/Angus cross steers aged 6-9 months, weighing 270kg from Jackson sold for 292c.

Restocking was on the mind of producers with PTIC cows and PTIC heifers, seeing 100 per cent clearance for the stock category, making from $1060 to $1900, averaging $1318. The top priced line was a mob of three-year-old Droughtmaster cows from Wowan. These Woodbine blood cows were PTIC to a Woodbine Droughtmaster bull, and part of offering from Woodbine Santa stud by Graham and Colleen Mauger.

Weaner and yearling heifers saw a 71pc clearance for the 1500 head offered nationally. Light heifers weighing under 200kg sold from 183c to 261c to average 216c. From Roma, 10 to 13 month old 203kg yearling Santa heifers made 219c.

Other Queensland highlights last week included 310kg Red Angus cross steers from Longreach selling for 278c, 6 to 12-year-old Woodbine Droughtmaster cows with Droughtmaster calves at foot selling for $2250, and 4 to 10-year-old PTIC Simmental/Brahman cows from Boonah making $1290.


Sheep and lamb numbers from Queensland dropped last week heading into winter, to see 1290 head offered, 2300 fewer than the previous week. The small offering saw, Aug/Sept '18 drop White Dorper ewe lambs, and Feb/March '19 White Dorper ewe from Thallon sell to a buyer in Wagga, NSW for $170 and $141 respectively. Mixed age scanned in lamb Meatmaster/Dorper cross ewes from Talwood sold to a buyer in Warialda, NSW for $136.

The goat market continues to stoke buyer interest as more goats were listed online this week. A line of 111 Dunauman Park blood Boer/Rangeland cross young breeder goat does from Goondiwindi sold for $140. These does are 9 to 10 months of age and weigh 31kg.
