This Sunday is the Teenage grand finals at Tooowomba Sports Ground. This special day is highlighted with the inclusion of our Under 13, 15s and 17s Youth Girls Sevens in the program for the fist time. Under 13s is a social match, Under 15s final will be Bears against either Condamine Codettes or USQ Saints, and the Under 17s final will feature Toowoomba Bears against Condamine Codettes.
Last Friday night's Teenage Boys semi-finals at Highfields Sports Park, will see Under 13s grand final: Toowoomba Bears v Highfields Redbacks, Under 14s grand final: Dalby Wheatmen v USQ Saints, Under 15s grand final: USQ Saints v Highfields Redbacks, and the Under 17 grand final: Toowoomba Bears v South Toowoomba Kookaburras. Sunday at the Toowoomba Sports Ground, Arthur Street, will be a classic showcase, as most participants prepare for the Teenage Boys State Championships at Downlands College on July 5-7, and the Teenage Girls Sevens State Championships at Bond University on September 26-27.
Last Saturday Wagners Senior Rugby featured two Golden Oldies clashes and two Ladies Days. Toowoomba Bears hosted their Ladies Day at Heritage Oval, featuring the Stuffed Old Bears v Highfields Silverbacks. In Wagners A Grade the wooden spoon Toowoomba Bears defeated Highfields Redbacks 38-0. The Fish Tank hosted Condamine's Ladies Day. In the Wagners Risdon Cup Condamine Cods defeated Dalby Wheatmen 20-15, and a mini-carnival of Open Womens 7s Emilee Cherry Cup. Both occasions were an overwhelming success.
The second and last instalment of the Kiwi-Hanna Cup (over 30s) at Gold Park saw the Kiwi (Rangers) victorious over Hanna (USQ Saints) 34-12. In A Grade, Toowoomba Rangers won a nail-biter against USQ Saints 28-27, to remain in third place on the Wagners Risdon Cup ladder. Warwick hosted their Sponsors Day with their B grade winning against Goondiwindi Emus 26-10, and in A Grade Goondiwindi Emus defeated Gatton Blackpigs 26-0.
Wagners Risdon Cup ladder after 11 rounds:
1st: Goondiwindi Emus (43 points and for and against: +381 points!), 2nd: Roma Echidnas (32 points), 3rd: Toowoomba Rangers (30 points) and 4th: USQ Saints (21 points). Condamine Cods and Gatton Blackpigs still in the race, 5th and 6th respectively (both on 19 points).
Emilee Cherry Open Women's Sevens Round 4 last Saturday was held at the Fish Tank and Risdon Oval, Warwick. Ladder: 1st: Bears (52 points), 2nd: Codettes (42 pts), 3rd: Dalby Wheatchix (37 pts), 4th: Warwick (35 pts), and 5th: St George Filly Frillies (32 pts).
This Saturday the Wagners Risdon Cup match of the round is the City cross-town rivalry featuring Toowoomba Bears travelling to Gold Park against the Toowoomba Rangers. Both teams have enjoyed wins in the past fortnight, so it's sure to be entertaining rugby.
Sunday June 16 at the Athletic Oval (Toowoomba Sports Ground) is not to be missed with the very best teenage talent on the Downs. Gates open 8:30am, entry free for children to age 17, adults $5 at the gate, eftpos/paywave facility available.
