Bush rugby at its best will be front and center when the Goondiwindi Rugby Club Ladies Day takes place at Riddles Oval on Saturday, June 22.
Goondiwindi Rugby Club president Doug McDougall said the aim of the day is to showcase Goondiwindi Emus rugby, and to provide an enjoyable social day for the club's female supporters, friends and players.
"The stands are always packed and the marquees full as spectators come out in force to support the Emus and the ladies who support them," Mr McDougall said.
"Our Ladies Day is fast becoming a must attend event in the Western Downs, with crowds growing yearly," he said.
Mr McDougall said the expected 1000-plus guests will be treated to a thrilling day of rugby.
"Matches will begin at 10.15am when the Goondiwindi Emus take on their healthy rivals, the Toowoomba Rangers, in the Ladies 7s.
"The Mens C, B and A grade teams will take on the Rangers at 12.15pm, 1.30pm and 3pm respectively."
On the day, gate entry for gents will be $5, while ladies will receive free entry, which also includes free entry into the hospitality tent which opens from midday.
"The Ladies Marquee will have drinks on offer including Pimms and champagne, and also a variety of canapés to choose from.
"The Best Dressed Lady will be gifted with prizes from local businesses, and multi draw raffles will be held throughout the day with all proceeds to be directed to Ovarian Cancer Australia."
Mr McDougall thanked the Emus major sponsors Ray White Rural Goondiwindi and the Victoria Hotel Goondiwindi.
"I'd also like to thank our team sponsors, Pivot Irrigation & Pumping (Ladies 7s), Hayes Spraying (C Grade Mens), McGregor Gourlay (B Grade Mens) and Woods Group (A Grade Mens)."
Mr McDougall encouraged all ladies who're making the trip to Riddles Oval on the day to grab their friends to enjoy a lovely afternoon of champagne and entertaining rugby.
