The 2019 Toowoomba Royal Show reigning grand champion led steer stole the limelight again at the 2019 FarmFest led steer and heifer show on Tuesday.
Benjarra Chicken Nugget, a Limousin/Shorthorn-cross steer weighing 510 kilograms at 12 months, exhibited by Lane Passmore, Clifton, was sashed the grand champion steer.
Overall 99 heifers and steers paraded before judge Craig Price, of Kilcoy Pastoral Company, Kilcoy.
Mr Price, who has judged steers and prime cattle previously at Sydney and Brisbane Royal shows praised all exhibitors.
"I was looking for consistency and evenness of fat cover, along with weight for age, so by the look of the exhibits paraded before me today, the beef industry is definitely in good shape," Mr Price said.
Benjarra Chicken Nugget was bred by Ben Passmore and Bec Skene, Benjarra Cattle Company, Clifton, and they gifted him to their son, Lane.
Mr Passmore said that as Chicken Nugget was so quiet they decided they would exhibit him.
"The plan is to take him through to the Ekka, and we will aim for the middle weight to heavy class," Mr Passmore said.
Chicken Nugget was described by Mr Price as a stand out exhibit.
"He has plenty of thickness and is really my type of steer," Mr Price said.
The steer was earlier sashed the champion open steer, before taking the grand champion accolade.
The reserve champion open steer was a black Limousin steer named Gambler exhibited by Travis Luscombe.
Weighing in at 688kg, Gambler also stood reserve to Chicken Nugget at the Toowoomba Royal Show.
The champion school or junior steer was the 14-month-old Santa Gertrudis/Shorthorn/Limousin steer exhibited by Mitch Franz, of Jandowae.
The steer named Unpredictable was bought through the Dalby Saleyards last August as a weaner.
Mr Price said it was pretty satisfying to have a wonderful example as his junior champion steer.
Mitchell Muller exhibited the reserve champion school or junior steer with Pretty Boy Floyd.
