A group of 10 youngsters threw their hats in the ring for the Landmark Merino Fleece and AgForce Merino Sheep young judges competition at the 2019 Queensland State Sheep Show.
Despite the strong competition from the sheep industry's next generation, Will Hacker, Roselea Merino Stud, Muckadilla, took out both titles.
Will said it was good to finally get a win, having been competing in young judges competitions since 2013.
The 20-year-old has been working for Haddon Rig Merino Stud in central-western NSW for three years and said he loved being involved in the sheep industry.
"Noting will ever be perfect, but it's always exciting trying to build your own version of the perfect animal," he said.
"You can do that with other things in life, but with sheep there's so many opportunities."
Will's brother, Angus, came runner up in the Landmark Merino Fleece competition. Will heads to New Zealand in 2020 to compete in the national competition.
