Pratt Agencies held their annual weaner show and sale at Murgon on May 3 with 1200 quality calves yarded for the event. The quality of the yarding was outstanding and the freshness of the calves was surprising considering the very dry period experienced since Christmas.
Greg and Julie Zahl, Gayndah, were awarded most successful exhibitor. Ross and Beth Shanks, Booubyjan, won the best pen of Droughtmaster infused weaners. G and J Zahl, Gayndah, sold two pens of Charolais cross steers for 322c returning $1060 and $918. Their draft of 40 steers averaged 318c.
Bandamill Murgon sold Charolais steers 316kg for 285c and $903. Simmental steers a/c D and D Morris, Wondai, sold for 266c ($940) and 274c ($916). Charbray steers from M Smith, Gayndah, sold for 293c and $838. Wildhorse Pastoral, Manumbar, sold Santa steers for $721 at 287c. 257kg Charolais steers from Murgon sold to $2.85c and $733.
A and R Barsby, Tansey, sold Charbray steers for $881 (269c) and $806 (278c). Charbray steers from Goomeri weighing 266kg sold to 283c to return $755. G and A Sippel, Murgon, sold 313kg red Angus steers for $843 at 269c. 275kg Santa cross steers from Nanango sold for $778 and 282c. 285kg Charolais steers from Murgon sold for 279c returning $795.
Brangus steers from Mondure sold to 270c and $745. A and R Barsby, Tansey, sold 315kg Charbray heifers for 271c and $854. They also sold 332kg heifers for $858 at 258c. Two pens of Charolais cross heifers from Gayndah sold for $726 (237c) and $703 (245c). R and D Warren, Mondure, sold two pens of Brangus heifers for 241c returning $713 and $629.
