A stellar draft comprising 117 lots combined with the allure of an increase in draft incentives promise to create a perfect storm of bidding during the 28th Toomba Invitational Horse Sale.
The sale, being held at the Charters Towers Indoor Equestrian Arena on Sunday May 26 from 9am, will see 65 Queensland-based vendors offer 39 ridden mares and fillies, 65 ridden geldings, one ridden stallion and 23 led prospects in the 2019 catalogue.
Mark Scholes, Landmark Rockhampton, said Toomba has built-up an excellent reputation over the years for being a place where people can bid with confidence knowing the horses selected for the sale catalogue have good grounding and that most of them have extensive station work experience.
"The catalogue is truly a showcase of campdrafting, challenge and performance horse breeding. We are excited about the future potential for this sale and the support shown by new and repeat vendors," Mr Scholes said.
He said to heighten the appeal of the sale this year, a larger cash and prize pool of $20,000 in incentives will be offered on horses previously purchased at Toomba, which have been nominated to compete in one of several events included in the schedule for the Horse of the North Challenge.
"The Challenge has been held in conjunction with the Toomba sale since its inception. The two events have always worked in well together, and a number of horses purchased at the sale have come back and performed well there."
In a great show of support for Queenslander's impacted by February's weather event, sale vendor Jason Heading, Toomba Grazing, Charters Towers, will be donating all proceeds from the sale of lot 28 Toomba Federer to the Sisters of the North flood relief charity.
Mr Heading said Federer, a two-year-old ridden gelding, is by Branchvale Icon (Hazelwood Conman x Sweet Susie Acres Destiny) out of a great Open Black Breeze mare in Toomba Frances.
"Federer was broken-in at the end of February and ridden up in preparation for the sale by Rob Carn. He has been brought along nicely, and will have droving and mechanical cow experience prior to the sale," he said.
"His combination of first-rate genetics has all but ensured that he's destined for campdraft greatness."
Pre-sale workouts, incentive drafts and the Horse of the North Challenge finals and the Toomba Sale action will be livestreamed on www.landmarklive.com.au which is where the sale catalogue can also be viewed. The sale draft will be available for inspection from Saturday morning, May 25.
