An upper low circling south west Queensland has produced some of the best rainfall in the Cunnamulla district for more than six years, leaving many celebrating.
So far rain reports from 50 millimetres up to 110mm have been recorded in parts of the district.
Paroo Shire Council mayor Lindsay Godfrey, Tinnenburra, Cunnamulla, had received up to 90mm on Tuesday.
"It is some of the best rain our district has received since 2012," Cr Godfrey said.
"We are certainly in a cash drought and our financial circumstances aren't going to change in the immediate future, but it improves everyone's disposition.
"The flood in the Warrego River had only just gone down last week leaving the river flowing and filling up waterholes. It then spread out over the flooded country and lifted some spirits.
"But to have 50 to 110mm of rain on the back of the flood-out will certainly have an uplifting effect on people's spirits."
Cr Godfrey said the rain will grow herbage, which will come away in the next couple of weeks and will help producers.
"It is certainly too late in the season to grow any Mitchell or Flinders grass," he said.
Local businesswoman Kathy Ashley posted to the Who Got the Rain Facebook page the township of Cunnamulla had received 90mm and it was still raining.
Cozette Burey delighted in sharing falls of 110mm at Hillview Station 50 kilometres south east of Cunnamulla while 96mm fell at Murrawondah.
Mike and Sally Moody, Abbadoah, situated 20kms to the east Cunnamulla, have reported 110mm so far on Tuesday and that it was still raining.
Stacey Keane from Waverley Downs, near Hungerford, situated just over the Queensland-NSW border, reported 54mm of glorious rain. It was still raining there too.
At Yowah, 165km west of Cunnamulla, a total of 26mm was recorded on Monday and another 40mm Tuesday.
The rain caused the cancellation of the final race at the Augathella Meat Ant race meeting on Monday after a heavy downpour of rain.
The Cunnamulla races scheduled for Thursday April 25 have been postponed after rainfall recorded at the Cunnamulla track makes it unsuitable for racing.
"It would be many years since we have had to cancel a race meeting for rain, " Cr Godfrey said.
