The Callide Dawson Beef Carcase Competition is on track to receive a record number of entries as a midway field day looms.
The competition, now in its 31st year, has eclipsed last year's numbers, with more entries still to come.
Competition public relations officer Mike Bradshaw said the previous record for grain fed entries was 396, but this year they have had 534 entries.
"I could not believe it," he said.
"We've got people that have had cattle in the competition every year but this time because it's dry, there are probably some people that thought they may as well enter their cattle in the competition, or enter more than they normally would."
Grassfed and grain assisted nominations will close on May 24 and Mr Bradshaw said that they expected to see the number of entries jump again once those nominations were factored in.
"Our record was 612, so with 534 entries already, we only have to get 100 grass fed to beat that," he said.
"The grassfed entries might be back a bit but we should get 150 to 200 head in the grass fed categories.
"It's just a great way to back yourself and put a few cattle in to see how they stack up... if you win a couple of prizes, things are going along well."
A field day will be held on May 3 at Warnoah Feedlot, Theodore, to show the growth of the cattle in the feedlot, with Mr Bradshaw expecting around 60 to 80 people to attend.
Guest speakers at the day will include Bronywn Schultz from Rural Financial Counselling Service, Meat Standards Australia technical officer Sarah Day, Mick Sullivan from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and Fitzroy Basin Association senior land management officer Bronywn Brunton.
The field day will start from about 9am, and will include a live assessment competition and trade displays.
All cattle will be processed at Teys Australia's Biloela facility.
Winners will be announced at a dinner at the Biloela Civic Centre on July 5.
