Perfect autumn weather set the scene for a great day's racing at Blackall on Saturday.
Against a backdrop of green the five-event program sponsored by Blackall stock and station agents went off without a hitch, even rearranging race times slightly to allow the crowd to gather and watch Winx's final win in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.
The school holiday timing and a local wedding meant the crowd was down slightly but those there were celebrating some rain at long last, and having fun with the 'Walk on the Wild Side' Fashions on the Field theme.
Alpha's Brendan English was given the opportunity to start the last three races on the day to learn the trade, and race president Paul Banks said it was very rare to find anyone who wanted to have a go at learning.
"We're all for bringing new people in and giving them a go - it was great that he asked," Paul said.
