Record entries yarded in 2019 Brangus Carcase Competition

Some 204 steers from 13 vendors were yarded at Waterfall Feedlot, Tansey, last week, the largest in the competition's four year history. 

Last year there were 140 steers entered from six entrants. 

Brangus Carcase Committee member Brad Saunders said the steers that arrived at the feedlot demonstrated a great quality and evenness. 

"I think it will be a very even competition... there weren't obvious stand outs when they came in," he said. 

"They've come from Central Queensland and South East Queensland mainly." 

Despite the entries being up, drought has had an effect on numbers, Mr Saunders said. 

"There's about two or three people who wanted to enter but weren't able to because of the dry conditions," he said. 

"But we did still have new vendors enter." 

A field day will be held at Waterfall Feedlot on June 19, with organisers expecting a good turn-out. 

The steers are judged on weight gain and carcase eating ability.

Winners will be announced at the awards dinner, to be held on August 7 at the Bracken Ridge Tavern, Brisbane.

Prime cuts will be served up at the Bracken Ridge Tavern, Yeppoon Sailing Club and Rocky Sports Club for Brangus Month.
