For Eliza Borchardt, being picked to attend the inaugural GenAngus Future Leaders Program is an opportunity that will keep giving for the next year.
Mrs Borchardt and her husband Scott run Oakvale Angus, a stud and commercial cattle operation she established in 1997, and a mixed farming operation near Tara.
She balances working part time at the Australian Limousin Breeders Society with being mum to their two-year-old daughter, with a second child on the way.
Mrs Borchardt was one of 12 beef industry representatives from across Australia and New Zealand chosen to take part in the inaugural GenAngus Future Leaders Program in Sydney last week, put on by Angus Youth and farm insurer Achmea.
During the three-day intensive workshop, participants covered a wide range of topics including business financials, risk and liability and succession planning.
From here the participants will go on a 12-month leadership journey, with mentoring provided to them to help develop their careers.
Mrs Borchardt said it was the right time for her to attend the program to help further her own beef business and the family operation.
"I am grateful for this opportunity and the chance to work closely with industry leaders over the next 12 months, being mentored to achieve our business goals and implement plans," she said.
Mrs Borchardt grew up in Duri, NSW, where her family still reside with a commercial beef operation.
She is the vice-chairman of QLD Angus State Committee, cattle steward of Tara Show and a past winner of awards including the Trans-Tasman Scholarship and Angus Australia's University of Illinois Scholarship.
Mrs Borchardt said being involved with Angus Youth had brought her so many opportunities to travel and learn from industry experts.
"Having all these contacts overseas and the experiences, the value of it has been incredible," she said.
