The GasFields Commission GasApp is the first of its kind anywhere in the world.

It’s an easy-to-use phone application that delivers customised and current information about Queensland’s onshore gas industry straight to your fingertips.

It is essentially three apps in one – a compensation estimator, a complaints submission system and a communications hub with helpful information for people who want to know more about the gas industry.

Users of the app can tailor the sort of information they want to receive and the commission can ensure the information sent via the app is relevant to a user’s postcode, local government area or topics of interest.

GasApp’s compensation estimator allows landholders to calculate an estimate of the compensation they may be entitled to from gas development on a property.

The estimator calculates a figure based on common valuation methods and takes landholders through a step-by-step process of the various factors they should consider when negotiating a Conduct and Compensation Agreement (CCA).

The team at the commission spent more than a year designing, testing, adjusting and testing the formula again and again before settling on the final estimator algorithm.

The estimator can’t take into account every circumstance because every property, business, family and development is different in some way.

What it can and does do is prompt stakeholders to collect the information they need to effectively negotiate a CCA and then provide an estimate based on the fundamentals.

GasApp was developed after the commission identified a need to improve communications between landholders, gas companies, Queensland Government agencies and other stakeholders.

It’s a modern solution to an old-fashioned communications problem that allows the commission to update users with new information as it arises.

It’s available now for free on Google Play and the Apple App Store or follow the links from the GasFields Commission website at Gasfields Commission Queensland
