Nanango Showgrounds was bustling over the weekend for the annual Brahmousin Cattle School, with more than 80 participants brushing up their beef industry knowledge.
It marked the 18th year the cattle school has been held, with participants learning the ropes of showing cattle, covering everything from parading and judging to animal husbandry.
Cattle school organiser Amanda Graham said people travelled from places including Murwillumbah, Grafton, Roma and Noosa to be part of the three-day event.
"We had about 100 volunteers, parents and mentors there as well," she said.
"It was a really great weekend."
Ms Graham said it was great to see the event still going strong after so many years, even though there had been a two-year break since the last event.
“These participants are going to be the future of the cattle industry,” she said.
“We had about 40 kids that had never done anything with cattle before, there were a lot of city kids who came with their schools.
“The biggest thing for me is seeing them learn something new and making friends along the way.
“It’s not just kids either, we had some mature age participants as well.”
Angus Haynes took out the Herdsman award, while Jack Riley was named runner-up herdsman. Douglas Reinke received the Peter Shelton Memorial Trophy and Isaac Warrener was the winner of the Westerham Concrete AllRounder Award, taking home a steer for his efforts.
Ms Graham said generous community sponsorship had allowed them to keep fees low for participants.
