SPRINGSURE cowboy Cody Angland  is the early favourite to win a title this year after two brilliant rides at the Tumbarumba Rodeo in NSW.

Cody scored 88 on the horse Texas Lil to win the saddle bronc and on the same day scored 87 on Ramblin Angel to finish first in the bareback bronc ride.

There are only a handful of scores in horse events in the high 80s each season and rarely does a rider score two at the one rodeo.

To cap off an outstanding rodeo for the Angland family, Cody’s wife Teneille won the barrel race at Tumbarumba with a time of 17.06 seconds from runner-up, current Australian Professional Rodeo Association all around champion cowgirl Elley Hulls.

Teneille is originally from Roma and is a past barrel racing champion in the APRA.

Cody is a likely starter in the Wagga Wagga Rodeo on February 9, the closest APRA rodeo to Wantabadgery, the town where he grew up.

In seven rodeos on the Christmas Run, there were no scores in four rodeos in the bull ride. The top performer was Troy Wilkinson who scored 88 to win the bull ride at Finley, NSW. He also won at K Ranch, Mt Hunter, with a score of 81 on the bull High Roller.

Competitors from all states will be heading to two Australia Day rodeos on Saturday. Wilmington is one of the biggest rodeos in SA, and the Neerim Rodeo in Victoria is expected to be well supported, especially with Monday a public holiday in most states.
