The ongoing dry conditions saw 9912 head of cattle yarded at the first Roma store sale of 2019.
Cattle were mostly drawn from across the local supply area and western Queensland, with the yarding dominated evenly by steers and heifers, and a mixed quality reflective of the current season.
Prices fell when compared to last year, however demand was strong for better quality lines of cattle.
Rick and Leanne Whitton, Myrtleville, Injune, sold Charolais steers to 308c/kg, reaching a top of $1009 to average $984, and Charolais-cross heifers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $1,022 to average $961.

Mr Whitton said with the dry and so many cattle on offer, he was very surprised to get over 300c/kg for the steers.
“We’re coming through a reasonably good time,” he said.
“I really would like it to rain, but we burnt early and we had a bit of rain, so a lot of our feed is fresh.
“We’re hanging in there and we could probably go another month before it really gets bad, but I’m hoping for rain in February, even an inch.”
