The catalogue offering for the Big Country Brahman Sale, at Charters Towers on February 4 – 5, will well and truly fulfill the sale’s 2019 theme “industry impact”, according to sale agents Geaney’s and McCaffrey’s ALM.

Sale auctioneer Ken McCaffrey said for stud and commercial Brahman breeders, it’s a sale not to be missed with its large lines of select quality, red and grey stud sires, herd bulls and stud heifers offering “impressive genetic strength and breeding values”.

“Our stud vendor line-up is stronger than ever and they’ve gone out of their way to reserve premier lines of bulls and heifers for Big Country, representing the leading bloodlines of the industry,” Ken said.

A total of 365 lots are catalogued from 49 studs across Qld.  On day one, Monday, February 4, selling starts at 11am with 115 red bulls.  They’ll be followed by the Brahman Belles stud heifer section of 71 lots (54 greys and 17 reds).  This section includes the second ‘Lanes Creek Ladies’ Heifer Production Release of 41 ready-to-join heifers, featuring the studs’ best bloodlines.

An 8:30am start on Tuesday, February 5, puts before buyers an impressive offering of 175 grey bulls.

The agents are delighted the offering includes a record 144 poll or scurr lots, the biggest poll influence sale ever in Northern Australia.

The agents’ excitement about broad vendor support from the industry is backed by a glance at the sale’s vendor list which includes drafts from Rockley, Carinya, Cambil, Palmal, Kenrol, Ooline, NCC, Token, Muan, Lanes Creek, Annavale, Raglan, Tropical Cattle, Kimora, Kariboe Valley, Somerview, Kenilworth, Palmvale, Somerton, and many more.

Ken said the Big Country Sale policy of agent’s pre-catalogue inspection and selection of sale lots ‘on-property’, equips them with an early familiarity of each lot that will go through the sale ring in early February.

“Following our inspection trip to every stud, it’s evident we have many impressive, strong grey and red sire prospects, in this year’s offering.

“Studmasters and bull breeders across the industry should be having a very serious look at the catalogue. Included are bulls with the same high quality credentials of any of the top sellers of the Spring sales.”

Jim Geaney of Geaney’s said the balance of the bulls were selected for suitability to supply the best of beef performance in Central and Northern herds.

“Carcass performance, soundness of structure, natural quiet temperament, good constitution and genetic strength of proven beef bloodlines, are priorities in our selections,” Jim said.

“There will be pen after pen of great commercial bulls, as usual priced attractively for quality steer breeders. Last year at our sale, more than 120 bulls sold in the $3,000 to $5,000 range.”

Jim and Ken said they’re are “proud and pleased” that their sale is regarded as very ‘buyer friendly’.

Ken said as well as attractive volume buyers rebates for the bull and heifer sections, the sale undertakes the cost of the Dalrymple Saleyards clearance dipping for clean country buyers, and for the feed and feeding of bulls overnight, while they await delivery from the saleyards.

Remote area bidders who may not be able to attend the sale in person can view the sale in progress and bid online through Elite Livestock Auctions.

Jim said he’s confident that after the sale’s 25th Anniversary in 2018, Brahman breeders will respond positively to the eye-catching 2019 sale line-up.

“It has gone to a new level again, thanks to the support of our committed group of leading studs, and that’s excellent news for cattle producers of Central and Northern Australia who rely on this sale as their primary source for quality bulls.”
