QUEENSLAND’s weather system continues to be dominated by tropical cyclone Owen, which is currently located over the south western Gulf of Carpentaria.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the storm was expected to become slow moving this morning and then adopt an easterly track later today.

“Conditions are favourable for further intensification, and the cyclone is likely to make landfall as a severe tropical cyclone about the southeast Gulf on Friday, before tracking down the east coast as a deep low pressure system over the weekend,” BOM says.

Meanwhile, a slow moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will maintain a weakening ridge through central and south eastern Queensland over the next few days.
