Queensland Country Racing has welcomed the $550,000 increase in prize money for non-TAB racing as part of the state government’s $18 million funding allocation this week.
Minimum prize money for all non-TAB thoroughbred races will rise to $7450 with $5000 for first place effective from Saturday, December 15.
Since 2017, Racing Queensland has introduced the Race to the Reef, Race to Roma, Outback Showcase, and the Battle of the Bush to the Country Racing Series.
Chairman of Racing Queensland, Steve Wilson, praised the unique contribution non-TAB thoroughbred racing makes to the state economy.
“Regional and country races play a critical role in thoroughbred racing’s $444.7 million contribution to the state economy.”
