A BAND of showers, patchy rain and thunderstorms are expected over the interior of the Queensland on Wednesday and through eastern, central and northern districts on Thursday.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology an inland surface trough and associated thunderstorm focus currently extends from Queensland’s north west into the southern interior, while a firm ridge and more stable conditions will extend over the east coast districts.
BOM says a new surface trough will then approach Queensland’s south western border on Tuesday, increasing instability further over western parts.
The surface trough will then combine with a broad upper level trough to extend a band of showers, patchy rain and thunderstorms over the interior of the state on Wednesday and through eastern, central and northern districts on Thursday.
The surface trough should move off the southern coast later on Thursday, with a dry air mass then extending through much of the interior and southeastern districts in its wake.
Some rain is even possible today (Monday). Storms, including some severe storms, are said to be more likely over inland parts of the far north west and also the Maranoa and Warrego district.
