LINDSAY ‘Butch’ Titmarsh has done it again, producing another magnificent volume about his beloved Maryborough district.
Walking With History is self published collection of 60 factual stories with pictures from the region, capturing happenings and events that would otherwise be lost.
The 264 page volume was officially launched at the Susan River Homestead before a crowd of about 150 people on Sunday. Walking With History follows on from Tandora – a pioneer’s dream, and Mary and Susan – sister rivers of the Fraser Coast.
The five year project includes stories on local characters include Lord Starbright, brumby runners, lost railways, motorcycle racing, lighthouse keepers, snake catchers, recovering bulldozers lost at sea off Fraser Island, lost dogs and crocodiles.
Butch said he felt he had an obligation to capture history.
“At the time when many events occur, they are considered just everyday incidents, not worthy of recording, so they are passed by,” Butch said.
“Later on, down the track, when those same happening are mentioned in conversation, often no evidence at all of their existence can be found.
“Many people who have lived extremely interesting lives have not recorded anything. So with their passing all is lost.”
