A jam-packed slate of events is planned for the sixth annual Clermont Beef Expo and Trade Display taking place on Wednesday, October 31, at the Clermont Saleyards from 7am.
Building on the success of the past five years, Beef Expo event partners Clermont Agencies CRT, Hoch & Wilkinson (H&W) and Queensland Country Life, will present a program centered around the theme “Cowboys and Itchy Burns”.
A first-rate selection of cattle from throughout the region will be exhibited, judged and sold on the day, with a total cash prize pool of $23,500 providing great incentive for entrants across the 14 classes being judged.
H&Ws’ Jake Passfield said class winners will receive $1000, the exhibitors of the Champion Pen of Prime Cattle, Champion Pen of Store Cattle, and Champion Beast of Expo Sally Taylor Memorial will each win $1500, while $5000 will be presented to Grand Champion Exhibit of Expo exhibitors.
“H&W will also donate $500 to a charity of each class winners choosing,” he said.
Mr Passfield said in between inspecting the cattle selected for the expo, visitors can take a stroll through the trade display, hosted by Clermont Agencies CRT, featuring a myriad of services and products being offered on-site by a vast and varied selection of local businesses.
A forum session tied directly into the expo theme will see guest speakers and Clermont locals, Dr Alan Guilfoyle, Dr Sarah McLay join with Dr Guy Weerasinghe from Biosecurity Qld to discuss transmittable zoonotic diseases between animals and humans
Dr Guilfoyle said the trios main aim during the forum will be to raise awareness around the major disease risks people living in rural areas are vulnerable to on a daily basis from livestock, domestic pets and animals in the wild, and precautions that can be taken to reduce the risk of contracting these diseases.
“Swine Brucellosis, Hendra Virus in horses via bats, and Q-Fever in cattle are some of the topics we’ll discuss and offer preventative advice on,” Dr Guilfoyle said.
Mr Passfield said in conjunction with the Beef Expo, Clermont Agencies CRT are holding a drought breakfast sponsored by NAB Agribusiness and run by the members of the QCWA.
“All proceeds from the drought breakfast will be going to the QCWA Qld Drought Appeal.”
He said the 32 bulls being offered by the York family at the Billa Park Simmental Bull Sale will also be available for inspection during the expo, with the sale to be held at the saleyards from 11am on Thursday, November 1.
