STRONG reputation and quality, even lines were offered at the annual Bullzeye Droughtmaster bull sale, which saw an impressive lineup of 85 out of 106 bulls sell for a 80 per cent clearance.
An overall gross of $501,500 was achieved on Friday at Capella, with the sale averaging $5900.
Vendor Kerri McKenzie, Hamadra Droughtmasters, Bluff, said this year’s sale was a little bit tougher than in previous years.
“We were somewhat expecting the sale to be affected by the current weather conditions that producers are facing but the quality of the bulls offered continues to be strong,” she said.
In 2017, the sale recorded an average of $8713 with a gross of $836,500 and a clearance of 96pc.
Top price honors went to lot 26, Hamadra Harely (P) SD717200M D5, who sold for $18,00 to Noel and Adam Geddes of Oasis Droughtmasters, Rockhampton and Dingo.
Harely had the figures to backup the top dollar with the supplementary information presented recording a weight of 764 kilograms, with an eye muscle area of 132 sq cm and boasted a scrotal circumference of 41cm.
Sired by Hamadra Bodacious (S) D5 SD711100M, the 20-month-old bull was a show calf from the stud’s show cow, Hamadra Elegance (S) D5 SD7147F, who won supreme female at the Marlborough show this year.
Mrs McKenzie went on to say the family has a soft spot for the young bull as he exhibits a beautiful nature, is well put together with a good sheath and a nice polly head.
The second top priced bull was lot 36, Medway Attica (P) TMC17473M D5, who sold for $12,000 to Dean and Julie Allen, Western Reds Droughtmasters, Longreach.
Medway Attica is a 23-month-old bull sired by Medway Shake Hands (P) D5 TMC11189M and out of Medway Terralyn (P) TMC12383F, who entered the ring weighing in at 754kg with an impressive EMA of 140sq cm and a 43cm scrotal circumference.
Libby Ingram of Skye Droughtmasters, Alpha, saw a total of five bulls sell to average $4900.
Steve and Claire Farmer of SC Droughtmasters, Yaamba, sold a total of six bulls for an average of $7416.
Will and Ingrid Haviland of Sugerland Droughtmasters, Capella, averaged $5750 for the 10 bulls sold.
Andrew and Kerri McKenzie of Hamadra Droughtmasters, Bluff, sold a total of 17 bulls to average $6441.
Paul and Paula Russell of Locarno Droughtmasters, Dingo, sold eight bulls to average $7187.
Hastings and Sandra Donaldson of Medway Droughtmasters, Capella, averaged $5550 for the 10 bulls sold.
Cliff Mylrea of Needmor Droughtmasters, Gogango, sold a total of 12 bulls average $6041.
Peter and Deleece Carrington of Rondel Droughtmasters, Winton, sold a total of 17 bulls to average $4529.
Bulk buyers for the day saw Arcturus Downs, Springsure, secure 11 bulls for a gross of $50,000 to average $5000. Pioneer Grazing Co, Clermont, took home a total of six head for an average of $3500, while Undercliffe Pty Ltd, Springsure, snapped up five bulls to $5600.
Buyers present in the stands had made the trip to Capella from far and wide, with bid cards registered from Hughenden through to Gympie.
