QUEENSLAND might be the Sunshine State but Stanthorpe will again embrace its chilly reputation for next year’s Snowflakes in Stanthorpe festival.
To be held on across July 5-7, 2019, Snowflakes in Stanthorpe will continue what has become Qld’s premiere winter festival.
Thousands of visitors are expected to descend on the Granite Belt town for a winter family holiday with a guaranteed chance of throwing snowballs.
On the Friday (July 5), the main street of Stanthorpe will feature entertainers, demonstrations and activities, including stage performers, seasonal markets and an ice sculpture competition.
There will also be a street parade, a bocce rink, jumping castles, a snowman toss and whip cracking.
After 5pm, the lantern parade will wind its way to Stanthorpe’s newest icon, the Big Thermometer before fireworks round off the evening.
Visitors can then head to the “Stanthorpe Snowgrounds” from 9am on the Saturday and Sunday for a range of activities including the massive snowfield (with under 8’s area), on stage entertainment, fashion parade, movies, giant snowglobes, facepainting, climbing wall, enchanted forest, winter markets and more. Tickets are required.
The ice skating rink will be available until 7pm at an extra cost per session.
Snowflakes in Stanthorpe was first held in 2013, and was organised by a small team of locals who wanted to celebrate the region's status as the coldest place in Qld. More than 3000 people attended. Snowflakes in Stanthorpe is held biennially.
