A total of 152 Brangus bulls sold to a top price of $34,000, for an overall average of $8141, representing 78 per cent clearance at the 42 second annual Rockhampton Brangus Sale, held at the CQLX on Tuesday.
The sale topper was Telpara Hills Magnum 541M30 (P) (AI (ET) offered by the Pearce Family, Telpara Brangus, Upper Barron, near Atherton, and sold to former South African, Fleetwood Grobler, Stockyard International, who has moved to Australia and now lives in Tamworth, NSW, and breeds stud Brangus cattle on country near Coonabrabran, NSW.
Telpara Hills Magnum 541M30, is a 30 month-old bull and represents 100 per cent United States genetics, and is the son of MC High Quality 535 Y from Oaks Miss Next Step 541 X33.
Oaks Miss Next Step 541X33 has earned $250,000 in progeny sales in Australia alone.
This breeding combination has proved a great success for Telpara Hills, as not only do they own his dam in the United States but also his grand dam, and great grand dam.
By mating the same sire with this successful dam, they have sold two full brothers Telpara Hills Carbine 541M17 who topped their Beef Australia draft at $28,000, while Telpara Hills Remington 541M18 topped the 2018 Roma Brangus sale at $22,000, and full sister Telparra Hills Miss High Quality 541M15, was also part of their Beef 2018 team sold for $42,000.
Next at $32,000 was Bonox 998 (P) offered by Bruce and Leanne Woodard, Bonox Brangus, Taroom.
This Australian-bred bull represented the home-bred sire Bonox Mick 730 (P) from Bonox 8416 (P), and bought by Lachlan and Maddy Brown, Monto, who will use him for stud duties over their stud breeders.
Jane Saunders, Charlevue Brangus, Dingo, also had cause to raise a smile when her 35-month-old Charlevue Bid Baldy 11-16 (P) sold for $30,000 to Mark and Amanda Salisbury, Bimbadeen Brangus, Eidsvold.
Charlevue Bid Baldy represents all Charlevue home-bred bloodlines in the first generation and a sprinkle of Greendale, Doonside and plus Charlevue breeding in the second generation.
Amanda Salisbury described him as an exceptional bull who held it weight of 1060kg very well, and has an eye muscle area of 148sq cm.
“He really has some very deep all Australian bloodlines,” Amanda said.
Queensland Country Life will publish a full report in next week’s issue of the paper.
