THE second annual Mayoral Gala Charity Ball, hosted by Somerset Regional Council at the Somerset Civic Centre in Esk on Saturday evening was a huge success.
The evening was well supported with 200 guests enjoying a circus themed extravaganza aptly named “Cirque du Somerset”.
The black-tie event was held to raise money for charity with all profits raised from the event being held by Council to support charities that assist people suffering from disability, homelessness, trauma, abuse or neglect in the Somerset region.
Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the evening was a huge success.
“The support and generosity from the community was overwhelming and for that we are very appreciative,” Cr Lehmann said.
“Together we raised $30,000 at the inaugural event which has helped families in Somerset.
“Money raised has been given to two separate community groups helping residents impacted by either the devastating bushfire that ripped through Toogoolawah last month and a family at Winya who lost everything in a house fire.
“We wouldn’t be able to help these people if it wasn’t for the support of our generous sponsors and residents who attend the fundraising event.
“I would like to once again thank all our 2018 event sponsors including Aaction Traffic, Lowood and Fernvale Community Bank Branch Bendigo Bank, Kilcoy Global Foods and King and Company Solicitors.
“A & M Civil, Queensland Urban Utilities, Zanows Concrete and Quarries, Ray White Rural Esk at Toogoolawah also came on board as sponsors.”
Cr Lehmann said it was great to have Member for Lockyer Jim McDonald also in attendance and showing his support for the evening.
“Council is very appreciative of all the support from the community in Somerset who helped make this event a huge success including various businesses and individuals who came on board as in-kind sponsors and assisted. Every little bit helps,” he said.
“Somerset residents are renowned for their generosity and support of charities and this event has again showcased this positive community spirit.
“We’re hoping to have raised the same amount of money as last year, if not more.”
“From the bottom of my heart I thank everyone for their involvement in making this year’s event a success.”
