A total of 41 stud Brangus females sold to a top price of $34,000 to average $5146, as part of the two-day 42nd Australian Brangus Cattle Association Sponsored Rockhampton bull and female sale, that got underway at the CQLX on Monday.
And the day of high prices certainly belonged to the Pearce family, Telpara Hills, Upper Barron, via Atherton.
It was their 18-month-old heifer Telpara Hills Miss Csonka 392N2 (P) (AI), a daughter of Csonka of Brinks 30R4 (P), from Telpara Hills Miss Real Deal who topped the female sale catalogue.
Miss Csonka 392N2 (P) was highly sought after and finally secured by Peter and Roz Alexander, Hidden Valley Speckle Park Stud, Kyogle, NSW.
The Alexanders are diversifying their Speckle Park breeding operation and are aiming to breed a Speckle Park/ Brangus cross line of cattle.
They bought their first Brangus heifer at Beef 2018 after seeing Telpara Hills Miss Hollywood, and paid $36,000 for her in a private treaty.
Initially, the Alexander’s will breed first cross bulls using Speckle Park sires and joined with Brangus females, and then breed in reverse with Brangus sires using semen by artificially insemination into Speckle Park females.
“We have been looking a Brangus females for the past six weeks, and saw her on Saturday when she arrived at the CQLX,” Mr Alexander said.
“Her figures are terrific and she is in the top one per cent for growth rates and her IMF is 6. 4 per cent,” he said.
“She is structurally correct, has good feet and legs, and is everything in terms of what we are looking for in a female.”
Next at $17,000 was Telpara Hills Miss Eisenhower 468N6, a daughter of Eisenhower of Salacoa 23Y69, from Telpara Hills Miss Braxton 468C5 and bought by Dr Brett Scott, Ravenshoe, north Queensland.
Dr Scott also paid $8000 for Telpara Hills Miss Csonka 15M6 for $8000.
United States-based Nic Cornelison, Lake Majestik, Flat Rock, Alabama, paid $15,000 for Telpara Hills Miss the Rock 468M17, a daughter of Telpara Hills The Rock 468H15 from Telpara Hills Miss Garrett 468C16.
Nic Cornelison also secured a second heifer Telpara Miss Foundation 541N3 for $10,000.
Both heifers will return to Telpara Hills for flushing and the frozen genetics will be exported to the US.
The Pearce family, Telpara Park, were also active and secured Shadow Valley Miss Eclipe 468M (P) offered by Jan and Dean Kapernick, Shadow Valley Brangus, Gin Gin.
“We were happy to secure Shadow Valley Miss Eclipse, as she represents our genetics and buying her is a good opportunity to bring her back into our stud bloodlines,” he said.
They had earlier sold her Telpara Miss Singletary 468 (P) (AI) to the Kapernicks, and this heifer her first calf.
A total of 131 commercial heifers sold to average $767, to top at $1800, while five cow and calf units averaged $850 and topped at $850.
