A total of 6,550 head of cattle were yarded at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday, with the market holding firm for steers.
Rosehearty Grazing, Ingle Downs, Winton, offered 200 Santa and Santa-cross heifers and 300 steers, with dry conditions forcing them to offload.
Averaging 239 kilograms, the steers sold to a top of 318 cents per kilogram, to average 299c/kg for $718/head, while the heifers, averaging 224kg, made a top price of 260c/kg to average 245c/kg for $551/head.
TopX agent Carl Warren, Roma said Rosehearty Grazing offered a great line of cattle that presented well despite the tough conditions.
“Rosehearty normally carry their steers through to bullocks, but the dry conditions forced them to offload,” he said.
“This is the second year that they’ve unloaded because of the dry.”
Mr Warren said the steers sold up to 20 cents better than anything else for the day, while the heifers were 10 to 20 cents above the top of the market.
“In general, the steer market was pretty firm on previous weeks, but we did see those isolated lines sell stronger,” he said.
“The heifer market there wasn’t much change yesterday; it might have been just a touch softer in parts.
“We had less steers and heifer numbers yesterday, with the yarding made up of a big run of cows.”
