DRY conditions reduced the clearance rate to 83 per cent at Jon and Leny Gaffney’s annual Graneta Limousin and Limflex bull sale, Glendale, Bell of Friday.
Graneta principal Jon Gaffney said with seasonal conditions getting tougher every week and no significant rain where their bulls end up meant a reduction in the clearance rate.
Selling agent GDL Dalby and branches with their auctioneers Peter Brazier and Mark Duthie worked the crowd to eventually sell 33 apricot and black Limousin bulls and Angus bulls for a $5379 average and a top of $10,500.
The top selling black Limousin bull was Graneta Matador M43, a homozygous polled son of Mandayen Fortune F1606 which weighed 702kg at 22 months of age.
Graneta Matador was ranked in the top 5pc of the breed for rib and rump fats and the top 10pc for 600-day weight and was bought by regular supporters Mark and Belinda Wilson, Banana Station, Banana. The Wilsons accounted for three exceptional youngsters with excellent raw data and carcase EBV figures for a $8833 average.
Return buyers Robert and Melinee Leather, Barfield Station, Banana accounted for four quality bulls for a $5750 average and paid up to $7500 for a low birth weight, dark, red polled son of Mandayen Horseman H2241 in Graneta Meat-Ant M70.
The Leather family run a Brahman based herd with around 500 organic breeders on Barfield Station and want to lift the marbling characteristics of their progeny through the injection of Graneta Limousin genetics.
Shad Bailey, Colin Say & Co, Glen Innes, NSW bid the $7000 top Limflex (Limousin/Angus) money for Graneta M11 on behalf of Robert and Angela Landers, Brumford, Glen Innes.
