PREVAILING dry seasonal conditions reduced the clearance rate to 83 percent at Jon and Leny Gaffney’s annual Graneta Limousin and Angus bull sale, Glendale, Bell, on Friday.
Graneta principal Jon Gaffney said the seasonal conditions getting tougher every week and no significant rain over the country where their bulls end up, meant a reduction in their clearance rate.
Sole selling agent GDL Dalby and branches with their auctioneers Peter Brazier and Mark Duthie worked the crowd to eventually sell 33 apricot and black Limousin bulls and Angus bulls for a $5379 average for a top of $10,500.
The top selling black Limousin bull was Graneta Matador M43, a homozygous polled son of Mandayen Fortune F1606 which weighed 702kg at 22 months of age.
Graneta Matador was ranked in the top five per cent of the breed for rib and rump fats and the top 10 per cent for 600 day weight and was bought by regular supporters Mark and Belinda Wilson of Banana Station at Banana.
The Wilson family enjoyed success at the highest level at Beef Australia earlier this year, winning the champion male grainfed pen with their Graneta Limousin/Brahman-cross entries.
The Wilsons accounted for three exceptional youngsters with excellent raw data and carcase EBV figures for a $8833 average.
