The Boonah rodeo didn’t disappoint with a sensational crowd showing up on a magnificent evening to see the fearless daredevils chase the eight second dream.
Amid scenes which encapsulated much of what is great about this country, with the Australian flag flying proudly overhead, and ACDC blaring over the loud speakers, man took on beast and the fans couldn’t get enough.
Midway through the night, organiser Opal Gill of John Gill and Sons said she was thrilled with the turnout and the reckless intent displayed by the stock on show.
“We’re really happy,” she said.
“The crowd is huge.
“It has doubled since last year.
“There’s standing room only.
“The bulls and riders are performing wonderfully.
“We’ve seen a few high scores.”
Mrs Gill said the number one rodeo entertainer in the country Big L was getting the audience fired up with his interactive comedy routine.
“He's fantastic,” she said.
"There’s a fantastic atmosphere and everyone is having a great time.”
As well as the bull riding, there were saddleback broncs, bareback broncs, barrel racing, peewee racing and poddy riding.
First-time rodeo attendee Courtney Currie said she was there to see the cowboys take on the bulls.
“I love a good cowboy,” she said.
“The atmosphere is great.
“Everyone’s really laid-back.
“I’ll definitely come back next year.”
Mrs Gill said John Gill and Sons had been running the rodeo for two years and was pleased with its growth.
She said the rodeo contractor would like to expand it further in the future.
“We’d like to make it an annual event and take it to another level,” she said.
