Cattle numbers doubled from last week’s small offering to total 694 head. Clearance dipped slightly, back to 75 per cent. The majority of this week’s offering also remained in Queensland.
Weaned steers were in short supply, averaging 281c for steers weighing up to 215kg. Monklands Cattle Co, Alpha offered 114 Charbray/Brahman cross steers which achieved the top price of 302c or $640. Weighing 212kg, these steers are 7 to 11 months old. The vendor also offered a similar line, consisting of 114 Droughtmaster/Brahman cross steers weighing 209kg which returned 279c or $585. Wilson Farming, Goondiwindi, offered a line of 11 Angus cross steers which sold for 262c or $365. Weighing 139kg, these steers are 3 to 6 months old.
WJ & VM Harrington, Richmond offered a line of 114 Droughtmaster cross backgrounder steers which returned 246c or $615. These steers are 8 to 13 months and weigh 250kg. Offered by the same vendor, a line of 56 Droughtmaster steers sold for 218c or $725. Weighing 332kg, these steers are 12 to 26 months old.
Weaned heifers were also in short supply this week, with the two lines offered coming from southern Queensland. A highlight saw a line of eight Angus cross heifers, offered by Wilson Farming, Goondiwindi return 249c or $375. Weighing 150kg, these heifers are 3 to 6 months and will travel to Moree, NSW. Catriona Murdoch, Ban Ban Springs offered a line of 42 Droughtmaster cross heifers which sold for 218c or $505. These heifers are 6 to 10 months and weigh 231kg.
Fairbanks Grazing Co, Ballandean, offered a line of 20 PTIC Angus cross heifers which returned $920. Weighing 382kg, these heifers are 22-24 months old and in calf to Dance Angus bulls. Kurrboo Livestock Company, Blackall offered a line of 40 NSM Angus/Santa cross heifers which returned $1250. The heifers are 26 to 27 months old, with first calves at foot and weigh 393kg. The 40 calves are sired by Angus bulls and are 2 to 8 weeks old.
Sheep numbers remained steady on last week, with 4771 head listed. Clearance rates also remained steady at 80pc.
Merino wethers averaged $90, topping at $98. Ogg Pastoral, Hughenden offered a line of 600 wethers which returned the top price. These wethers are 4 to 7 years old and weigh 59kg. They are bred from Egelabra bloodlines and were shorn in July. HH MacIntosh & Co, Longreach offered a line of 1600 woolgrower wethers which returned $86. These wethers are 25-27 months and weigh 49kg. These wethers were also shorn in July and bred from Egelabra bloodlines.
MR & LM Plant, Meandarra offered a line of 660 station mated Merino ewes which returned $70. These ewes are 4 to 6 years old and weigh 40kg. These ewes have been joined to Border Leicester rams and are travelling nearly 800km to Alectown, NSW.
From Longreach, Fontus Pastoral offered a line of 456 Dohne wether lambs which returned $82.50. Weighing 35kg, these lambs are Mar/Apr ’18 drop, and bred from Hazelwood and Gullendah Dohne bloodlines. RM & AE Bredhauer, Wyandra, offered a line of 485 Dorper mixed sex suckers which returned $90. These lambs are Apr/May ’18 drop and weigh 31kg. These lambs are also bred from Glen Park and Winrae bloodlines and will travel 630km to Boggabilla, NSW.
