INSATIABLE demand from a large return buyer base pushed the average to $9700 at the Price families’ annual Moongool Charolais on-property bull sale at Yuleba on Monday.
Moongool principals Ivan, Helen, Ian and Dell Price celebrated 25 years of successful sales in the best way possible by clearing every bull offered against a backdrop of adverse seasonal conditions.
A total of 85 Charolais bulls sold to a top of $28,000 and averaged $9700 for a total clearance.
Moongool co-principal Ivan Price said most of the bulls went to repeat buyers with a strong central Queensland contingent.
“There was a premium for poll bulls with above average raw data scans and Breedplan figures and especially if they also displayed strong carcase attributes,” Mr Price said.
Mac and Gayle Shann, Cantaur Park, Clermont, outlaid the $28,000 top money for Moongool M402E (P), a 22-month-old, 1002kg son of Silverstream Evolution (P) with plenty of power and chock full of red meat characteristics.
Ian, Jane, Stuart and Andrew Murray, Kindee Pastoral, Muya, Injune, were the volume buyers of the sale after securing 10 quality bulls for a $9300 average paying up to $14,000 for Moongool M332E, a deep-bodied son of 4Ways H21E.
Andrew Murray said he selected for temperament, muscle expression and good, growth for age.
“These bulls will go over Santa Gertrudis/Charolais-cross cows with the progeny sold as eight to 10-month-old weaners through the Roma saleyards in June each year,” Mr Murray said.
