A smaller yarding of 2400 head was penned at Gracemere on Friday consisting of 1285 steers, 775 heifers, 245 cows, 45 cows and calves and 50 bulls and mickeys. Overall the quality was good with cattle coming from mainly local areas as well as from Alpha, Collinsville and Bowen.
Meatworks and heavy feeder cattle were well sought after and prices rose slightly again this week. The same cannot be said for smaller cattle returning to the paddock, with buyers being very selective. There was a very good quality run of No8 Droughtmaster/Simmental Cross steers that bucked the trend, selling for 293c and weighing 297kg.
