CHAROLAIS bulls sold to a top of $22,000 twice at Jim and Jackie Wedges Ascot spring bull sale at North Toolburra, Warwick.
In a sale that packed plenty of punch, buyers defied the ongoing drought conditions with high performance Charolais and Angus genetics going to four states.
Alister and Joanne McClymont, Burleigh Station, Richmond, paid the equal top money for the Ascot Market Leader, a homozygous poll Charolais bull that had been on display at Beef 2018. The Eldorado bull was in the top 5 per cent for 200, 400, 600 day weights, scrotal size, EMA, rump fat and intramuscular fat.
The McClymonts AJM Pastoral bought four including the $13,000 homozygous poll Ascot More-Than-Ready. Another of the bulls that was on display in Rockhampton, the red factor sire was also by Juggernaut.
Condon Grazing Company, Conjuboy, Mt Garnet, also paid $22,000 for the homozygous poll Ascot Manpower after first seeing the bull at Beef. By Ascot Juggernaut, the 866kg Charolais had a 145sq cm eye muscle area and a 40cm scrotal circumference. The Condons were also the volume buyers, selecting six homozygous polls to go over their Brahman cow herd.
David and Jennifer Heslin, Hilton Park, Julia Creek, were also in the market for a double P, outlaying $13,000 for Ascot Magician. The very well presented 24 month old entered the sale ring weighing 1040kg and boasting a 148sq cm EMA and a 41cm scrotal.
Peter Donnelly, PJ Charolais, Glen Innes, paid $8000 for Ascot Mogul, a red factor poll bull with a 145sq cm EMA. By Ascot Eldorado, the fine coated stud contender rated particularly well in his EBVs.
Mountview Cattle Company, Cambooya, also outlaid $8000 for a PP bull. Mountviews selection was Ascot Ascot Minister, a 25 month old with a 147sq cm EMA.
South West Grazing, Nindathana, Tara, also bought six Charolais. Mungoven Farming, Woodlea, Kingaroy, bought four.
The 42 Charolais sold averaged $6850.
Angus were also in demand, with 63 bulls sold for an impressive $7016 average.
Sale topper was the 24 month old Ascot Monarch, which sold for $16,000 to Robyn Boto, Larksghyll, Tara. By Te Mania Emperor, the very well constructed full brother to Ascot Hallmark had a 135sq cm EMA. His breeding figures were also consistently in the top 5pc of the Angus breeding index.
Warren Stiff, Broadwater Angus, Warwick, paid the second top of $14,000 for Ascot Major General by Ascot Hallmark. The slick bull was in the top 1pc for 200, 400, 600 day weights and carcase weight EBVs.
Corack Cattle Company, Meandarra, also paid $14,000 for Ascot Montgomery. The 1044kg deep flanked bull was by the $150,000 bull Millah Murrah Kingdom.
MC,AD&CM Steinart, Flaxman Valley, South Australia, bid $13,000 for Ascot Majestic, a 24 month old by Te Mania Emperor.
The 23 month old Ascot Magnate went to James and Rachael Sargood, Wellwater Pastoral Company, Tambo, for $11,000. The son of Millah Murrah Kingdom was in the top 10pc for 200, 400 and 600 day weights and feed efficiency.
Hayes Grazing Partnership, Scrublands, Mundubbera, bought four Angus as did Lynoch, Armidale. The Hayes draft included a $10,000 Ascot Hallmark bull. Lynochs draft included the Juno son Ascot Man-of-War for $9000.
Selling agents were Elders, Colin Say & Co, Landmark, and Mike Wilson Stud Stock. The sale was also interfaced on AuctionsPlus.
