New genetics and sire bloodlines were in big demand at this years Droughtmaster National two-day bull sale.
This was clearly evident with a D2 Droughtmaster sire, Minlacowie Vinnie 8817, taking out the $55,000 top price of the sale and selling to the Kenny familys Wajatryn Droughtmaster Stud near Gayndah.
The bull was by Brahman sire, Mt Callan Nimrod (P), out of a quality Droughtmaster Minlacowie Tanya 7774 (P) cow.
The Vinnie bull was just what we were chasing this year to join our sire battery and being a D2 bull means the added bonus of new genetics.

The Vinnie bull was just what we were chasing this year to join our sire battery and being a D2 bull means the added bonus of new genetics, Wajatryn Droughtmaster Studs Warren Kenny said.
The bull oozes sire appeal and we are thrilled to have bought him from the Spann family with such a rich history of consistently breeding quality cattle.
Underbidders on the Minlacowie Vinnie sire was the Geddes familys Oasis Droughtmasters Stud at Rockhampton.
Both Droughtmaster beef cattle studs, Minlacowie and Wingfield, have been breeding Droughtmasters for 51 years and previously sold bulls to $100,000.
Combined the two studs have topped the Droughtmaster National two-day bull sale nine times.
We wish the Kenny family every success with this bull and are very grateful the sire has gone into such a great cow herd, plus look forward to seeing his progeny in the future, Minlacowie Droughtmaster Studs Jason Spann said.
The Vinnie sire recorded a great weight for age at 23-months-old and weighed 926 kilograms on sale day, plus displayed good softness and fat cover with 10 millimetres of fat on the rump and 7 millimetres of fat on the rib area. The bull had an eye muscle area of 134 centimetres squared and a scrotal measurement of 43 centimetres.
Warren Kenny, Wajatryn Droughtmasters, said the smooth skin type attracted him to the bull plus his tidy sheath, a positive trait of Mt Callan Nimrod sires calves.
We are very excited about the calves he will produce, Mr Kenny said.
We have been chasing a higher Bos Indicus content bull while still wanting to retain the naturally quiet temperament plus tremendous bone, width and scale.
