The 7th annual George and Fuhrmann bullock and steer show and sale saw a quality lineup at the Warwick Saleyards on Thursday morning, with demand from lot feeders and processors pushing the market to a high of 319c/kg.
The grand champion title was taken out by the Benn family of Liston for their pen of Limousin bullocks bred by Bernie and Bernice Janssens, Goomburra.
Fattened on oats and grain-assisted, the bullocks weighed in at 665kg and were purchased by JBS for 313c/kg to make $2081/head.
The reserve champion title was won by first-time vendors, Wickham Farms, Killarney, for Angus-cross bullocks, grain-assisted in the paddock for 80 days, weighing 698kg which sold to Teys for 319c/kg to make $2226/head.
The champion pen of feeder steers was won by Jim and Laurie Lowther, Pine Vue Timbers, Sugarloaf with Charolais/Braford steers weighing 457kgs, purchased by Noel and Liz Cook, Kindon Station, Kindon, to go into their Moruya feedlot, for 289c/kg to make $1320/head.
George and Fuhrmann agent, Matthew Grayson, Warwick, said the quality and presentation of the cattle was second to none.
“And the market was better than what we expected by about 10 to 15c/kg,” he said.
“The market was also up about 20c/kg on the weekly market, which makes everything worthwhile.”
