The Piggott family’s Aldinga Droughtmaster bull sale attracted a crowd of repeat and new buyers at Springsure on Wednesday.
Bull buyers in search of good quality stud stock genetics carefully selected their sires during the sale with an overall 85 per cent clearance rate achieved during the sale.
The Piggott Aldinga Droughtmaster bull sale sold 62 bulls out of the 73 offered to record a sale average of $5741 and a gross of $356,000.
A top bull sale price of $14,000 was reached twice during the sale with lot 9, Aldinga Imposing 89 6PT1789M D5 (PP), being bought by repeat buyers Michael and Tracey Flynn, Valera Vale Droughtmaster, Augathella.

The bull also recorded one of the highest daily average weight gain in the sale draft of 1.43 kilograms per day.
The second bull to reach the top price of $14,000 occurred shortly after with lot 13, Aldinga Immoral 56 (S) 6PT1756M D5 (PH), being snapped by another stud, Carlton Droughtmasters, owned by Rob Pollock, Roma.
The Aldinga Immoral bull will now go to work in Mr Pollock’s Carlton Droughtmaster stud cow herd north of Roma, which was established 15 years ago.
Carlton Droughtmaster stud currently sells their bulls at the Roma Droughtmaster bull sale each year with the next bull sale being held on Friday October 19.
“The Aldinga Immoral bull was a complete package with a very tidy sheath being one important trait I was chasing in this sire during the sale,” Mr Pollock said.
“I find the Piggott family’s Aldinga cattle do very well on my country near Roma because they are bred on forestry country near Rolleston.”
Mr Pollock added the impressive sire appeal combined with “great doing ability” of the Piggott family’s bull progeny is why he purchases their stud beef cattle.
The scurred 22-month-old Aldinga Immoral sire entered the sale ring at 724 kilograms and an eye muscle area of 128 centimetres squared. The bull also recorded 10 millimetres of fat on the rump and 7 millimetres of fat on the rib area, plus a 42 centimetres scrotal circumference and daily average weight gain of 1.1 kilograms per day.
