THE Central Brangus Classic sale saw a quality selection of bulls go under the hammer at Gracemere on Wednesday.
The line-up impressed buyers, attracting more than 80 registered bid cards to the CQLX venue, which saw a top price of $17,000 not once, but twice for the day.
A total of 101 bulls were offered at the sale on behalf of the 15 vendors, to return an overall gross of $609,000 to average $6411. A strong draft of bulls were offered right through to the last lot, to see the sale result in a clearance of 94 per cent.
The top price was reached first by Tannyfoil M52 (P) on account of Gavin McKenzie, Tannyfoil, Blackwater. The 23-month-old 818 kilogram bull sold to Knockbreak Partnership, Eidsvold for $17,000.
Sired by Weona 2842X9COM (P) and out of a Pheasant Creek dam, the young M52 poll bull, impressed the stands with supplementary information recording a 45.5 centimetre scrotal circumference,12 millimetres of fat on the rump and 9 millimetres of fat on rib. Tannyfoil M52 also had an eye muscle area of 125 square centimetres.
Towards the end of the catalogue, the second $17,000 top price was achieved with Bonox 1020 (P). The 32-month-old bull was offered by Bruce and Leanne Woodard, Bonox Brangus, Taroom and sold to Lawson Dunne, Tarcoola, Dingo.
Bonox 1020 sired by Bonox Scrubee 555 and out of Bonox B606 recorded a solid weight of 918kg, with an eye muscle area of 136 sq cm and scrotal circumference of 37cm.
A strong second top price was reached by lot 89 Couti Outi Herd Bull (P), from Lawson and Linda Geddes, Couti Outi, Kunwarra, selling for $15,000 to Bullrush Pastoral Company, Nebo.
Couti Outi Herd Bull weighed in at 882kg and boasted a 125 sq cm (EMA), 7mm of fat on rib and 9mm of fat on the rump.
Bullrush Pastoral secured another two bulls for the day to add to the Nebo stable, purchasing Couti Outi X-Chequer (P) for $12,000 and Telemon Knight (P) for $10,000 offered by Duncan and Karen Geddes, Telemon, Springsure.
Many repeat and bulk buyers were present in the stands, with Bottle Tree Cattle Trust purchasing eight bulls on the day to average $3812. Mackland Grazing was also a volume buyer, purchasing seven bulls for the Collinsville stable to average $5071.
