Commercial cattlemen from all parts of Queensland threw their buying support behind the first auction of the Ticoba Red Simmental and Simbrah bull sale held on-property situated north of Mundubbera today.
Overall the 42 bulls were sold from the 44 offered, to sell for a top at $9500 and average $6438.
Combined vendors, local breeders, Matt Kirk and family, Ticoba Simbrahs, together with invited interstate breeders Vaughan and Sarah Campagnolo, Savannah Simmentals, Mypongo, South Australia, catalogued a superb draft of bulls.
The sale topped at $9500 Ticoba 819 (P) a 19 month-old son of Tycoba D Boone, who had impressive weight of 968kg, and an eye muscle area of 138sq cm, and 46cm scrotal circumference.
The sale topper was secured by commercial producers, Cam and Lisa Hughes, Malarga Grazing, Brooweena.
In all, the couple finished with four bulls for an average of $8250 to be used over their Charbray females to produce bullocks bound for the Japanese-Ox market.
The Hughes family will retain the female progeny from this cross as future breeders.
The couple also paid to $9000 for Ticoba 803 (S), who is also by the same sire as the top price bull.
Savannah Simmentals sold to a top price of $9000, when the 24 month-old sire Savannah Murphy M21 (P) sold to Dave Berryman, Windsor Station, Charters Towers.
Savannah Murphy weighed 1105kg, has an eye muscle area of 147sq cm, and a scrotal circumference of 42cm.
Major buyer was Ray Jensen, livestock manager for Seamark Pty Ltd, who own properties in the Theodore and Nebo districts of central Queensland.
Overall, Mr Jensen finished with 17 bulls to average $5676.
From his selections, the bulls with the highest Bos Indicus content will run with Droughtmaster cows on the Nebo properties Vergemont Park and Seloh Nelom, while those with more of a Simmental content will be joined to Droughtmaster breeders on their Theodore property, Cliffordale.
Vendors, Matt Kirk and Vaugham Campagnolo were both delighted with the sale results.
