The yarding increased by 165 for a total of 1545 head at Warwick last week. Young cattle and cows made up the largest percentage of the yarding. The penning of young cattle consisted of a good supply of yearlings and weaners, although there was a larger number of light cattle this week.
Quality is continuing to decline with increased numbers of light conditioned cattle coming forward, however breed quality is still good. There was a limited supply of supplementary fed yearlings through the sale.
Overall, competition was weaker with restocker weaner steers making a top of 261c to be down by 6c, while weaner heifers sold to 181c/kg. Feeder steers were 15c cheaper reaching a top of 260c, averaging 238c/kg. The few trade steers sold from 250c to 319c/kg.
Most of the yearling heifers were 20c/kg cheaper. Although trade heifers were less affected, they made from 223c to 248c/kg. Feeder and restocker heifers sold from 169c to 193c/kg. The yarding of export cattle consisted of a larger supply of cows, along with a fair penning of grown steers and heifers. Steers and heifers saw little change with steers receiving a top of 273c and the heifers made to 249c/kg.
The cow market increased by 6c to 10c/kg in places, although some sales of the heavy cows and the medium weight 2 score cows held firm. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 159c, while the 3 scores averages and heavy cows sold to a top of 219c/kg.
