A cheerful crowd gathered above Machinery Hill on Friday to attend the annual Mort & Co drinks.
The lunch time affair was a great opportunity for those associated with the beef industry to catch up ahead of the interbreed judging in the Main Arena later that afternoon.
The Simmental breed went on to triumph in the Champion of Champions female and pair events at the Ekka, while the Angus took out the interbreed bull title.
Earlier on Friday, a crowd gathered to find out who the winners were in the Paddock to Palate competition.
Mort & Co plays a key role in the Paddock to Palate, with all cattle nominations spending time on feed at Grassdale Feedlot.
The Ekka will run until August 19, with the dairy, sheep meat and small breeds judging taking place next week.
