It was a dominant showing from the cattle of Rick and Sue Mcdoual, Kildare Grazing Co, Upper Horton, NSW, at the South Devon stud cattle judging on Friday; winning four from five possible champion and reserve champion awards, including the grand champion exhibit.
The day of dominance began with their fourteen month old heifer Kildare Lyn 5 taking out the Grand Champion Female award.
Jambili Nala N002 offered by the McUtchen family of Diamondy took out the reserve award.
Kildare Monsieur then took out the Champion Bull award, over Kildare Red Wing, who placed in the reserve position. Kildare Monsieur then went on to beat his heifer counterpart for the title of Grand Champion Exhibit.
The victorious 23-month-old bull weighed in at 802kg, with an average daily gain of 1.06 and an eye muscle area of 130 cm’s squared.
The win on Friday follows on from a Grand Champion win at Beef 2018.
James McUtchen, who shows cattle for Kildare, says the cattle offered today is indicative of the families breeding aims.
“We are showing a well muscled bull who knows how to show himself off well.”
Judge Roger Evans, Tamworth, said the quality of the offering did not disappoint, despite smaller exhibit numbers.
“We had less numbers in the breed but no less quality. We are seeing a very fertile and maternal breed which have an increased muscle expression while maintaining doability and softness.”
