It was a day of successes for Royalla Shorthorns principal Nic Job, Yeoval, at the Shorthorn stud cattle judging on Friday.

Showing cattle in conjunction with Marellan Shorthorns, Gindie, his 13-month-old bull, Royalla Uptown N194, graduated out of the junior classes to win the title of Grand Champion. .

“We were very pleased with all the results. Our champion bull has that great combination of muscle and softness. With an EMA of 110 cm's squared and weighing only 534 kilograms it is a huge ratio,” said Mr Job.

Competition judge Roger Edwards said the young bull was ‘packed full of potential’.

Royalla also took out the senior bull category with Royalla Trigger M246.

Mr Job was also able to celebrate with Jeffrey Rose, Amavale Shorthorns, Barambah, as their three-year-old cow Royalla Isobel L365 took out the Senior Champion Female and the Grand Champion Female titles, a cow which was sold to the Rose family from Royalla as a seven month old calf.

It was the Amavale cow’s structure and femininity which set it apart from the competition, said Mr Rose.

“Her size and features combine to give a great overall package with a tremendous heifer calf at foot. She was junior champion here in 2016, and Reserve Senior Champion last year so it is good to see that progression.”

Dunbeacon Poll Shorthorns took out the Junior Champion Female category with Dunbeacon Clementine N147.

Judge Roger Edwards said that quality had been exceptional.

“We saw a lot of different cattle for different markets on show today. Pleasing to see high yield cattle maintaining their quality. They are animals which are suitable to a wide range of markets,” he said.
