Local trade heifers reach 175c at Mareeba

There was a significantly reduced yarding of 505 head at Mareeba this week.

Mareeba Combined Agents penned a total of 505 head for this week’s prime and store sale.  Numbers reduced by 498 head on the previous week. We didn’t see the large runs of northern breeders in this week as has been for several weeks.  There were no local trade steers to quote. Local trade heifers rose by 6c/kg while cows rose by 4c. Slaughter ox lost 3c, cows improved on the best of last week at 190c, up 5c, while bulls eased on the previous sale of 227c by 2c.  Bulls to feed on sold in a range 130c - 234c depending on type quality and condition. There were practically no store steers to quote, while heifers are finding it hard to reach strong results and males remain firm.

Local trade heifers ranged from 149c to 175c and local trade cows made from 120c to 176c. Ox suitable for slaughter  sold from 120c to 220c, cows suitable for slaughter made from 110c to 195c, while bulls suitable for slaughter ranged from 70c to 222c.

Store steers topped at 220.2c, store heifers sold to 179.2c, younger store bulls reached 234.2c and cows and calves sold to $320/unit.
